M-SURE Digital Height Gauges User Guide

Precise, reliable, and engineered for accuracy – the M-SURE Digital Height Gauge is an essential tool for workshop and inspection tasks where vertical measurements demand pinpoint precision. This guide covers everything from first use to troubleshooting for consistent, dependable results.

Getting Started: First Use Instructions

Before using your M-SURE Digital Height Gauge:

  • Wipe the gauge body with a clean cloth lightly moistened with cleaning oil.
  • Handle with care – this is a precision instrument, not designed for high mechanical stress.
  • The pre-installed battery is for factory testing and may not deliver full battery life – consider replacing it on first use.
  • Avoid all liquid exposure, including high humidity or extreme temperatures.
  • Keep the gauge away from bright sunlight to maintain display clarity and prevent damage.
  • Never apply voltage or attempt to engrave the unit electrically.
  • If the gauge will be unused for an extended period, remove the battery to prevent corrosion.
  • Do not use solvents for cleaning – only a soft cloth and cleaning oil.
  • Be cautious – the scriber tip is sharp. Always handle and store it carefully.

Operating the Digital Height Gauge

Basic Measuring Steps

  1. Clean & Check: Ensure all surfaces, particularly the scriber and base, are clean.
  2. Power On: Switch on the gauge.

  3. Zeroing the Display:
Press the ZERO button to reset the reading to “0.00”.

  4. Unit Selection:
Press the mm/inch button to toggle between metric and imperial units.
The display will indicate which unit is active.

Using the ABS (Absolute) Function (Available on select models)

Measure and Compare with Incremental Mode:

  • Measure your first workpiece (e.g. 30.00 mm) in absolute mode.
  • Press the ABS button to enter incremental mode.
  • Measure a second point (e.g. 50.00 mm) – the gauge shows the relative difference.
  • Press ABS again to return to the original absolute reference point.
  • This is ideal for step height comparisons or sequential checks.

Battery Replacement Instructions

  1. Slide open and remove the battery cover.
  2. Carefully extract the old battery – a magnet-tipped tool can assist.
  3. Locate the side spring contact inside the battery compartment.
  4. Insert the new battery, edge first against the spring.
  5. Press the opposite edge down to seat it securely.
  6. Align and insert the battery cover, ensuring lugs fit into the slots.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Flashing Display Low voltage / poor contact Replace battery / clean contacts
No Display Dead battery / poor contact Replace battery / check alignment and contact
Erratic or Frozen Display Dirt or debris inside beam, low voltage Wipe clean / replace battery
Incorrect or Unstable Readings Contamination / force / scriber issues Clean gauge / reduce operating force / check scriber
Scriber Loose Clamp not secure / dirty mating faces Tighten correctly / clean contact faces
Inconsistent Zero Point Gauge not on stable surface / loose base Ensure stable, clean, flat surface for base contact

Final Notes

  • Always operate the gauge on a clean, stable granite or metal surface for best accuracy.
  • Store the unit in its protective case, in a dry and temperature-controlled environment.
  • For longevity, inspect the scriber regularly and ensure all clamping screws are kept lightly tightened – never overtighten.
